Janice Faulkner

Her distinguished careers in state government and education may be behind her, but the whirlwind known as Janice Faulkner has not stopped. She’s turned bureaucratic messes into organizational successes. She’s used her straightforward style to inspire other women — and not a few men — to be leaders. She’s made a joyful noise on Sundays as the pianist in her country church. A plainspoken woman known in government circles as “Ms. Fix-It,” Faulkner has turned her focus to the children of her beloved eastern North Carolina.

Faulkner is past Director of Development and now serves on the board for the proposed Eastern NC Regional Science Center project. The position is unpaid, but her reward is helping children improve math and science skills. She has tutored students in public schools several days a week. She’s known all over the state, but her state of mind is happiest in Pitt County.

“For retirees who wish to be actively engaged in the community, Pitt County is the ideal place to live. It offers widely diverse social and cultural amenities, excellent healthcare, life-long learning, year-round recreational and wellness facilities, safe neighborhoods and friendly children. Greenville is as close to heaven as I expect to be while still on earth.”
